VACCINE UPDATE: Arizona residents age 75 and older have been added to phase 1B of the Covid vaccination schedule. Currently, the vaccination schedule is in phase 1A. Phase 1B is expected to begin soon.
We have received the following information from Dr. Francisco García, Chief Medical Officer of the Pima County Health Department: The vaccine will first be distributed at drive-through clinics that the Health Department is setting up now. Currently, all proposed drive-through clinics are located in Tucson. Dr. García stated that at some time in the future, Green Valley area pharmacies will have vaccines available. Click HERE for a recent news release on the subject.
Currently, to access one of the Health Department clinics, one must register online through a website run by the Arizona Department of Health Services, HERE. As of this writing, one must use a laptop or desktop computer to set up an account. Phase 1B appointments and locations are not yet offered, but those with established accounts will be notified when appointments are available. Pima County Executive Chuck Huckleberry has acknowledged that this process is prohibitively cumbersome for many older residents. He reports that Pima County is looking into simpler alternatives to facilitate access to the vaccines.
Speculation and rumor about how the vaccines will be distributed is growing. Get your vaccination news straight from the source (Pima County Health Department) HERE.
Please report if you test positive less than two weeks after visiting a GVR center. Notify us so we may alert others who may have been exposed. GVR will protect your identity unless compelled by health authorities to reveal it. Report by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
GVR asks that snowbirds who are still in the north, or anyone else who is planning to travel, review the CDC's guidance for travelers, posted HERE.
Free testing for Covid-19 is being offered in a number of locations in Tucson. Click HERE for more information.
Who is Responsible for Keeping Me Safe from Covid-19?
I’ve come to the conclusion that I am! I follow the Big 3 – Wear a mask, Wash my hands, Social Distance. Beyond that, I am the only one who can determine how much Risk I am comfortable with.
It’s a Risk when I pump gas for my car, when I handle money, when I go to the store, when friends ask me over for dinner. Should I…. go to a restaurant for dinner? stop by a friend’s house to visit? Should I go where there is a crowd…. to see a movie? go to church? to see a program? And on, and on, and on. Every Risk I take makes me vulnerable to the virus.
I urge everyone to assess the Risks they may be taking every day. Plan to stay safe!
The Arizona Department of Public Health has issued a risk index, reposted here, for your safety.
MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED AT ALL GVR LOCATIONS
starting Monday, August 17
Masks will not eliminate the social distancing requirement. Both will be expected.
Free mask program (MASKUP) from the Arizona Department of Health Services
The MASKUP program provides 5 free reusable and washable masks to vulnerable residents 65 years or older. The masks can be ordered online, shipped to your home and it takes about 10-14 days for delivery.
